Sindh University Engineering College Jamshoro was established in 1963 as a constituent college of Sindh University to provide adequate opportunities for engineering education to people from the interior of Sindh province. As per the education policy of 1972, the government decided to upgrade the college to the level of the University of Engineering and Technology after shifting it to Nawabshah. So in February 1974, first-year classes started in Nawabshah.

In July 1976, the institution was declared as an additional campus of the University of Sindh through an amendment to the Sindh University Act, 1972, and was headed by a Pro-Vice-Chancellor. The additional campus was finally upgraded to the university level by an ordinance on 15 March 1977. Later, the Provincial Assembly of Sindh also passed an act in this regard and renamed this institution Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Nawab Shah.

In 1980, the government decided to shift the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology to Jamshoro, and the campus at Nawabshah was declared a constituent college of Mehran University. Mehran University College of Engineering and Technology (MUCET) was renamed, Nawab Shah. On 7 August 1996, MUCET was upgraded to the university level by an ordinance and later by an Act of the Sindh Assembly and renamed Quaid Awam. University of Engineering, Science, and Technology (QUEST), Nawabshah. Currently, QUEST is accredited by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC), and is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities.
