Established in 1993, Newports Institute of Communications and Economics is a private higher-education institution located in the large metropolis of Karachi (population range of over 5,000,000 inhabitants), Sindh. Newports Institute of Communications and Economics believes that education should be available for everyone and allows candidates to apply for different types of scholarships/financial assistance.
MERIT-BASED SCHOLARSHIPS
Students who have scored one of the top three positions at the previous institute are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Up to 50% tuition fee waiver is given to deserving candidates after being assessed by authorities.
NEED BASED FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
The admissions department scrutinizes applications and documents submitted by students seeking financial assistance. Up to 50% tuition fee waiver is given to deserving candidates after being assessed by the authorities.
Following are the documents that are required to be submitted:
- Expenses of education of any other siblings.
- Evaluation of applicant assets and financial resources.
- Life status of the father i.e. alive or deceased.
- Parental support
- Accommodation (ownership, location, size, type)
- Conveyance
- Financial standing other than income
- Academic standing and potential of the student
WORK STUDY SCHEME
This scheme allows students to supplement their financial needs through part-time work on-campus. The Human Resource Department announces positions available for students to work on-campus. Newports Institute believes that this program helps develop talent and skills in students. There are two different programs available for students:
- Paid Student Interns
- Teaching Assistant
EXTRA-CURRICULAR BASED SCHOLARSHIP
Students are provided scholarship for any extra-curricular activity that they have done previously and excel in it. Authentic Certificates of Excellence in Sports, Arts, Photography, Debate, Speeches, Drama or any such activity will be reviewed by the Institute.
HAFIZ-E-QURAN SCHOLARSHIP
To apply, the student must provide a certificate (if any) or he/she will be taken an oral test for verification of being a Hafiz-e-Quran.
SIBLINGS SCHOLARSHIP
Students whose siblings are enrolled at Newports Institute will be eligible to apply for the sibling scholarship.
SHOHDA SCHOLARSHIP
Students whose parents have earned the title of Shohda are eligible to apply.
ADMISSION CRITERIA
DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE
Students seeking migration from other Institutions of higher education are allowed admission in Newports Institute of Communications and Economics along with credit transfer subject to the following conditions:
- The previous University / Institution of Higher Education from which student desires to transfer must be a reputable HEC recognized University/Degree awarding institute of higher learning
- Applicant must have CGPA of 2.00 or higher for admission in the Undergraduate Program and 2.5 or higher for admission in the postgraduate program
- No objection certificate from the institution from which the student is seeking transfer must accompany the transfer application
- The application must be submitted at least 4 weeks before the commencement of the semester
- A copy of the transcript along with course contents be attached with the transfer application
- Newports Institute of Communications and Economics at its discretion may refuse any application without assigning any reason
- Credit transfers are allowed depending on equivalence and content matching of the courses; and a minimum of C grade for undergraduate and B grade for a graduate program in that subject
- Applicant must provide a Clearance Certificate from his/her previous Institution
- The participant will have to cover the entire deficient course(s) (if any) within the stipulated time for the completion of his/her degree
- Only 40% of the total credit hours completed by the student at previous University/Degree awarding Institute are transferable
